Crypto Exchange Gemini Secures MiCA License in Malta, Expands European Footprint
Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange founded by the Winklevoss twins, has obtained a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from the Malta Financial Services Authority. This regulatory milestone enables Gemini to expand its services across more than 30 European jurisdictions under the EU's newly implemented MiCA framework, which aims to standardize crypto regulations across member states.
The approval reinforces Gemini's compliance-focused strategy as it prepares to introduce derivatives and other offerings to retail and institutional clients in Europe. Earlier this year, the exchange secured a MiFID II license for derivatives trading and launched tokenized stocks in the region.
Gemini's regulatory progress coincides with its ambitions to go public. The company recently enlisted Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley to explore potential listing opportunities.
